We hear from Springfield, that one Chapin, belonging that Way, being in Debt, attempted a Method to induce his Creditors to forgive him: He in the Evening was heard crying for Help, when several Men went to his Assistance, they found him tied to a Tree, his Shirt tore to Pieces on his Back, and his outside Garment ript open: He told the People that he had been to receive some Money, -- and that he had been robbed, and left, in that Condition, by the Robber; but upon Examination he made out a Story very poorly, having only been fastened with narrow Quantity-Binding, and at the same Time chose a TREE within Hearing, it appeared to be a Scheme as above: And before he could be brought on a second Examination he went off.
