BANDITS GET $4,000 AND HOLD UP OFFICER

Kankakee, Ill.—Two robbers held up a jewelry store one block from police headquarters here, fled with diamonds valued at $4,000, held up a city detective and escaped with a police car after disarming the detective's son.

The robbers held up a woman who was entering the store, tied the clerk, B. P. Kruse, with wire and departed hastily with the diamonds and some less valuable jewels. The robbers had an automobile in an alley, but failed to get it started quickly and fled on foot. They encountered Detective Louis Heil and his son, Elmer, in a police car, which they took from the pair, disarmed Elmer and sped away.

The fugitives in the police machine were last seen on the Dixie Highway, between St. Anne and Watseka, speeding south, with civilian automobiles in pursuit.
