Mr. John P. Sebree was up to see Hon. Thos. Shackelford Monday concerning the new railroad. He went to St. Louis Tuesday to have the owners of the old road bed transfer it to the new company. If this is not done very soon the right-of-way will be taken over the new line - direct from this place to Sturgeon. This new line is over six miles shorter to Mexico than the old line, consequently there are not many inducements to build on the old line, notwithstanding most of the road bed is made. But it is to be hoped that the old bed will be transferred and the road built on it, as it is the wish of the people of the county that it should be done, and as it will be of much greater benefit to the whole county. There can be no question but that the road will be built on one of these lines, and at a very early day, too. This new company unquestionably mean business; their time is of too much importance, and their expenses are entirely too great to have any other meaning than the building of the road. Mr. Mitchell, the President, is now, and has been for weeks, personally engaged in taking the right of-way through Saline county. He has met with many obstacles - many obstinate, unreasonable men, along the line, but, up to this writing, he has gotten his work up to within sight of Glasgow. - Howard Co. Advertiser.
