Full Text

FRANKFORT, (Ky.) July 12.—The present summer has been so far the reverse of several of the preceding. The quantity of rain within the last two or three weeks has been most abundant. Between ten o'clock at night and four in the morning on the night of the 1st instant, the Kentucky river rose about seventeen feet. Almost all the boats and other water craft tied along the banks, were swept away, and the ruins of one or two mills passed this place, which must have been washed away, from some branch of the river. In a short time the river fell a little, but soon rose again to about twenty six feet. This long spell of wet weather, some of which has been very cool, has, it is feared seriously injured the crops of wheat and rye.
