Pursuant to the call of the Central Committee, the return Judges of the several townships met at the Court House in Ashland on Monday, August 21st, 1863. The Convention was called to order by Dr. J. P. Cowan, Chairman of the Central Committee. Wm. O. Porter was appointed Secretary and J. J. Jacobs, Assistant Secretary. After which the votes of each Township cast for the respective candidates were counted. Wm. Larwill having received the largest number of votes for Representative was declared the nominee of the Convention, and on motion of W. O. Porter, his nomination was made unanimous. W. G. Heitman having received the largest number of votes for Clerk, was declared the nominee of the Convention, and on motion of R. M. Campbell, his nomination was made unanimous. H. B. Hershey having received a majority of the votes for Treasurer, was declared the nominee of the convention, and on motion, his nomination was made unanimous. W. A. G. Emerson having received a majority of votes cast for Probate Judge, was declared the nominee of the convention, and on motion of C. A. Humes, his nomination was made unanimous. John Van Nest having received the largest number of votes for Commissioner, was declared the nominee of the convention, and on motion of John Charles, Esq., his nomination was made unanimous. James McNaull having received majority of the votes for Infirmary Director, was declared the nominee of the convention, and on motion of James McCool his nomination was made unanimous. John Woodburn having received a majority of votes for Coroner, was declared the nominee of the convention, and on motion, his nomination was made unanimous.
On motion of J. J. Jacobs, the Chair appointed John G. Brown, G. W. Urie, A. C. Bryans and George Botdorf, a Committee to select a Central Committee.
On motion of D. Bryte, the Chair appointed G. W. Hill, D. Bryte, and James Alberson, a committee to draft resolutions expressive of the sense of the Convention.
The committee on Central Committee reported the following, which was adopted:

Paul Oliver, Green;
Henry Brown, Hanover;
George W. Brubaker, Lake;
Samuel Welty, Vermillion.
The following is the Executive Committee:
Dr. G. W. Hill, J. P. Devor, Jas. McCool, David Bryte, and H. S. See.
The Committee on Resolutions reported the following which were unanimously adopted:
WHEREAS, It is important that the Democratic party all harmonize in the present campaign, in order to the triumph of our principles, therefore
Resolved: That this Convention endorse the preamble and resolutions adopted by the Democratic State Convention that assembled in the city of Columbus on the 11th day of June, 1863.
Resolved: That we will cheerfully support the nominees of the State and county conventions; and that we will heartily labor for the triumph of both at the October election.
Resolved: That this Convention endorse the "Ashland Union" for its efficiency in the advocacy of democratic principles; and recommend its support to the party throughout the county.
H. S. Knapp, Esq., our candidate for State Treasurer, was then called upon to address the meeting, which he did in a brief but appropriate speech. After giving three cheers for Vallandigham, and three cheers for Knapp, the convention adjourned.
