A SAD AFFAIR.
Father and Son Meet Terrible Deaths In a Machine Shop In Philadelphia.

Philadelphia, Dec. 24.-Edward Clark, aged 68, and his son William, aged 38 years, both of Camden, N. J., met horrible deaths while at work at a machine shop in this city Saturday.

Young Clark was seized with chills and in an attempt to get relief climbed a ladder to the top of a large boiler. In a few minutes his fellow workmen, among whom was the father, heard the noise of escaping steam. The father, realizing his son's danger, mounted the ladder to William's rescue. He missed his footing and fell on a big cog wheel and was ground to pieces. Young Clark was scalded to death before relief could be had. The safety valve of the boiler had dropped off and allowed the 40-pound pressure of steam in the boiler to escape.
