KINGDOM SUBJECT
OF REV. STENDER
Truth, Repentance, Confession and Baptism,
He Says
"The Keys of the Kingdom" was
the subject discussed at the Chris-
tian church revival last night by
its minister, H. R. Stender. The
special meetings are attracting at-
tention and are being well attended
He said in part:
"When Jesus promised Peter the
keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. In
Matt. 16:19. He promised some
things of great value. The main
purpose of Keys is to Open Locks.
so we need to know what is to be
unlocked and the instruments that
are to be used.
The Kingdom of Heaven is the
church which Jesus there promised
to build. He was to build it, not
on Peter, but on the fact of His
own divinity. He also promised
that nothing would ever prevail
against His own true church.
"If we were to try to become
citizens of some other kingdom or
nation, there are four things that
we would have to do. In the first
place, we would have to believe in
that kingdom. We would have to
have confidence in its head, its
methods of government, and really
want to become a part of it. In the
second place we would have to give
up all things that are opposed to
this new kingdom. Our own opinions
must go to the background, and
our actions contrary to this king-
dom must be stopped But there is
another thing we would have to do.
We would be called upon to pub-
licly acknowledge this new king-
dom. To do so would bring honor
to the sovereign or the government.
It would also help us, and have a good
effect upon others. In the fourth
place, we would be called upon to
swear allegiance to this new king-
dom. This is the seal placed upon
our action. It changes our rela-
tionship, and makes us a citizen
of the new kingdom.
"Now, one becomes a member of
the Kingdom
of Heaven--the
church--in these same four ways.
There must be faith in its head.
Jesus Christ; faith in the power
back of it, God; and faith in its
laws, the Bible.
