Man's LIFE pictured by the Seasons.

Here fond Man!

Behold thy pictur'd Life: pass some few Years,

Thy flowering Spring. thy Summer's ardent Strength.

Thy sober Autumn fading into Age,.

And pale concluding Winter comes at last,

And shuts the Scene. / Ah! whither art thou fled.

Those Dreams of Greatness? Those unfulfill'd Hopes

Of Happiness? Those Longings after Fame?

Those restless Cares? Those busy bustling Days?

Those gay spent festive Nights? Those veering Thoughts.

Lost between Good and Ill, that harrass'd thy Life?

All now are vanish'd! 'Tis Religion lives,

Immortal, never-failing Friend of Man,

His Guide to Happiness on high.

Attend. ye Sons Of Earth, a listening Ear

My Muse would crave; while the Years roul along.

To meet their final Period. : While the Hour,

Important Hour! that tells the Worth of Time;

Hastens with imperceptible Advance,

To prove what Wisdom urges now in vain.

Yet listen to her Council. Hear She calls. .

Re thoughtless Youth, why waste your Time & Strength?

Your Powers that seek a nobler Bliss than Sense,

With all her Tastes, fallacious can supply?
