MR. ETTENHEIM SCORES ONE WITH "SPITE HOUSE"
"A thorn among the roses" is the way neighbors characterize the building in the foreground, now under construction at Park place and Downer Ave.
An application for a permit to erect an apartment house and stores on the corner was filed by Solomon Ettenheim a month ago.
Neighbors protested and the permit was denied, under the provisions of the zoning ordinance.
Two weeks ago Mr. Ettenheim obtained a permit to erect a dwelling on the site at a cost of $3,000. Now that the story and a half, flat-roofed cottage is nearing completion, some of the neighbors are wishing they hadn't protested the erection of the apartment house.
Mr. Ettenheim, it is reported, intends to lease the cottage at rentals which will attract tenants whom the Downer Ave. fashionables will class as "undesirable."
