A recent survey edited by Readers Digest on crime has this to say:
"In the first six months of 1953 the number of crimes committed in the Nation's cities was 33.4 percent above the 1937-1939 average. Even more ominous is the fact that most of the increase has been in crimes of violence - aggravated assault, negligent manslaughter, murder and rape. The latter has risen 80 per cent.
The average age of the Nation's criminals has been falling steadily. More and more the teen-agers are going for big-time crime."
