The Outlook in Student Teaching - 41st Yearbook 1962 - The Association for Student Teaching carries the following account of personal efforts and institutional efforts which describe more vividly than do speeches the development of student teaching programs:
"Ann Cochran, College Supervisor, Morris Brown College, Atlanta, Georgia
"The Atlanta Negro Colleges, prior to 1935, had high school classes and a few other grades that afforded opportunities for observation and practice.
"The first Negro College in Atlanta to have an organized program of student teaching in the Atlanta public schools was Morris Brown College. I introduced the program in 1935 and served as college supervisor. The other Atlanta Colleges joined us in 1942 with Mrs. Helen A. Whiting as our first coordinator between the colleges and the public school system. Morris Brown College has had a continuous program, and all the college supervisors worked with Mrs. Whiting to improve student teaching. We increased the time required from two hours daily to four hours daily and then to the present all day for nine weeks in the Atlanta public schools. At first we required six weeks in a rural school. Now we have nine weeks student teaching all day."
Morris Brown College is the only Negro College listed with other outstanding Colleges and Universities throughout the United States such as Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio; University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyoming; University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois; The University of Texas, Austin, Texas; and Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan.
