Ladies Smoking.—The New York Mirror which is the very glass of fashion, says that cigar smoking has been introduced into the high circles of Paris, and that the ladies take to it very kindly, managing the interesting lip decoration with peculiar grace. We must wait until London adopts the fashion, before we may hope for its prevalence in this country. Smoking is a feminine grace, and its introduction into the boudoirs, at the present time, will be a revival, not the creation of a custom. Those who can look back some ten or twelve lustres, can well remember that the elders of those days indulged in the luxury of smoking. and that from each side of the magnificent fireplace, were seen gentle clouds of smoke rising from the bowl of the tobacco pipe, and emitted from the mouth of husband and wife; and their ascending currents would, after a little coyness, strike forward, and rush up the chimney, leaving a gentle stain upon the lower edges of Dutch tiles wherewithal the mantel was ornamented. Tobit and his dog, Samson and his lion, Jonah and his whale, have been terribly smoked by these archons of elder household, who, if gently reminded of the fading away of the fashion, had always at hand the anecdote of Queen Elizabeth and her tobacco pipe.
