RELIGIOUS INTEREST.—The health of Rev. H. H. WELLS, who reached this place on Monday evening last, is such that he is compelled to lay by a few days for recuperation. He proposes to undertake his work on Sunday next. In the meantime, 10 o'clock morning prayer meetings are held at the lecture room of the Congregational Church, attended in union by the members and pastors of the Congregational, Baptist, Presbyterian and Methodist churches. Evening services are to be held in the Presbyterian church during next week, and morning meetings in the place where held the present week. The services on Monday evening last were held in the Presbyterian church. There were present, besides Mr. Wells, Mr. Peet of Congregational Church, and Messrs McGiffert the pastor, and Morton of the Methodist Church—Mr. Morton preaching the sermon. After the sermon Mr. Wells gave an off hand address, in which allusion was made to the places he had visited, and the marvelous things that had taken place in changing the hearts and lives of the people. He told his audience plainly, but kindly, what appeared to be their condition, and what he thought they needed in the way of preparation for a work of grace. His suggestions were such as to reach the judgment of his hearers, and to startle their convictions, and they were generously received. His style of thought, language and address, is such as to enable him to reach his object in a kindly but direct manner, and his entire freedom from rant or cant, affectation or assumption, with his apparent devout fervor, his free and ready utterance, and his choice of language, give him a power over his hearers that is hard to resist. Religion is presented by him in an attractive form, and the objector and the hardened sinner feels a softening influence come over him as he listens to his earnest and kindly appeals, and almost unawares, his hostility gives way to his better impulses. We do not wonder at the success that follows his efforts. It is to be hoped that many will flock to hear him, if next week, he shall find himself equal to the work to which he proposes to give himself.

Since the above was in type, we have been requested to say that Mr. WELLS' first sermon will be given in the Presbyterian church on Sunday evening, to the several churches named above. The Sabbath morning service therefore, will be held as usual by each of the churches, in its own place of worship.
