Key West Police recovered a stolen car early this morning less than an hour after its loss was discovered, Chief Joseph Kemp announced today.
Lt. Ray Atwell received the alarm to be on the lookout for a 1951 Chevrolet convertible driven by Robert H. Krieg, Hollywood, Florida stolen from in front of the Bamboo room at 1:45 a. m.
He assigned Patrolman Jeff Brodhead to patrol the triangle at Roosevelt boulevard while Atwell patrolled the city.
Going east on Caroline street, Atwell spotted the missing car in front of a cafe. He radioed for Officer Malcolm Archer to stand by in case the thief returned to the car. Atwell also radioed the Desk officer to get in touch with the owners to inform them of the recovery of the car.
They arrived and Atwell turned the car over to them. The thief never did return.
Time elapsed from time of call to car recovery: 45 minutes. The car was in perfect condition with nothing removed from it.
