A letter from Capt. Francis, of Feb. 2, in Boston Gazette of Tuesday last, states, that the misfortunes of the French have been greatly exaggerated—recent skirmishes between the troops and the brigands—that Gen. Rochambeau has gone with 2000 fresh troops to stop the progress of the blacks in the south—and that large reinforcements are expected from France. All that the American commerce had been put upon the same footing with the French except only higher impost duty; and that the Americans had been repaid the money they had been forced to lend.
