Everyone has heard such adages as "Be Prepared," "Well begun is half-done." "A good beginning makes a good ending."
One of the most vital duties of the teacher is to organize his preliminary work in a manner and with such precision that the activities of the first week of school will function in a business-like manner. This stimulate the interest of boys and girls, and sets the pace for the remainder of the school year.
And, so it was at George Washington Carver Elementary last week.
Assisting Mrs. Bernice Hunt in secretarial duties is Mrs. Anna Belle Smith. We welcome Mrs. Smith to the staff.
Practicing new methods and techniques acquired this summer while studying at the various institutions are: Maedon Bullard, NYU; Annie Mae Jackson, Constance Moss, Mildred Washington, Mary McCray, Cliffonia Ross, Fla. A & M U; Barbara Rayford, Indiana U., and Gloria Murray, N. Carolina College.
Vacation time carried Marie House and Anna Smith to New York City; Altamese Guilford, Tampa, and Valdosta, Ga.; Grace McCraney, Tuskegee, Ala.; Rosa Hutchinson, Nassau; Emanuel Fryar, St. Petersburg and Ocala; Lillian Mazon, Atlanta, Greensboro and Norfolk, Va.; Sallye Summers, Tampa and Ocala; Alice Strapp, Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland; Bernice Hunt, Las Vegas; Alba Finlayson, Washington, D. C., and Claudius Jones, North Carolina.
