Kiwanis Club Has Annual Party at DuBois Ranch

One of the traditions of the El Centro Kiwanis club is the annual party at the J. I. DuBois ranch, an event which is looked forward to every year and which each year is always one of the nicest parties of the season.

This year's affair took place Saturday night, many club members and their guests once again enjoying the cordial hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. DuBois.

Some of the guests arrived in their own cars and others met at Brawley school, travelling from there to the ranch by the modern version of the hay ride, going in trucks.

Several tables were arranged in the garden, lighted by many colored lights, and here they were greeted by V. H. Tyler, Jr., president of the club, and Mr. and Mrs. DuBois.

A delicious chicken dinner was served and the group enjoyed a program of outstanding music by the Pipes Brothers' trio under the direction of George Burt, head of Brawley's music department. Donald, Howard and Herbert Pipes played.

will have an opportunity to hear Herbert and Howard as they report from the service.

Pipes, the older brother who comes home on leave occasionally, is in the service.

After dinner an hilarious program of entertainment was featured, arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas N. Finney, featuring various amusing contests.

Everyone participated in a true and false quiz, which was won by Marcelle Payne with Bert Mitchell and C. H. H. Small tying for second.

Two contests were arranged for the women, one an egg race, won by Mrs. Cliff Reed, and the other that old favorite in which the contestants must eat three crackers and whistle "Yankee Doodle." Ruby Winterbourne won the prize for this contest with Beth Waterman, second.

The remainder of the evening was devoted to a bingo game. All prizes were war stamps.
