PARK SERVICE MAN
MAKES RECREATION
SURVEY HERE

H. G. Schmidt, superintendent of Glacier Bay and Sitka National Monuments under the National Park Service, was in town yesterday making a survey of recreation programs and facilities in Wrangell. He is doing a survey of all Southeast Alaska towns for the National Recreation Board in Washington, D. C.

Object of the survey is to have information on file if appropriations are ever made or donations received to improve recreation facilities and to collect information in one town that might be suitable for use in another community. The whole survey will be published and distribution to the communities.

Schmidt said he believed Wrangell was above average in both indoor and outdoor recreation. He cited particularly the school gym, declaring it the finest anywhere for a town of this size, and commended the program for youth activity set up here.
