No Opposition Offered Incumbents.
Edgar Reed Drops Out
Election of a Mayor and Town Council for Rockville, May 4, promises to be a quiet affair this year, according to F. Bache Abert, town clerk. Douglas M. Blandford five-times mayor and three incumbent Councilmen are up for re-election with no opposition. The fourth councilman, Edgar Reed, declined to enter the election because of ill health. Frank E. Williams, automobile dealer, will be unopposed for his place.
Polls will be open from 12 noon to 7 P. M., Mr. Abert said and election will take place in the firehouse.
In a statement this morning Mayor Blandford pointed out that Rockville has taxable bases of $2,800,000. During the past ten years, he said improvements included a new disposal plant, four new wells and practically all the streets have been resurfaced. A reduction of 15c in the tax rate is now in effect he said while all improvements have been paid for.
Incumbent Councilmen are G. LaMar Kelly, Jr., Dr. William A. Linthicum and Oliver Perry. John G. McDonald is town engineer, F. Barnard Welsh, town counsel: Fred C. Nellinger, bailiff and Mr. Abert, Clerk. The Mayor and Council serve without pay.
