Full Text

Severely Burned.

Freddie Phipps and Forest Talbot organized a Battery yesterday, and took their field gun out into the field, or prairie. It was a small cannon, but it was bad. After they got out where there was no possibility of destroying houses, they loaded the piece, and lighting the fuse hastily retreated in good order. They put their hands in their ears, expecting every moment to be deafened by the terrible explosion. But the explosion didn't explode, and the two boys, after giving the cannon a reasonable length of time to go off, primed it anew, spilling considerable powder on the ground by the cannon. When they lit the fuse, it fell into the loose powder, over which they were stooping, and in a moment it exploded, burned the two boys severely. Their hair and eyebrows were singed, and their faces severely blistered, but luckily neither were seriously injured.
