Full Text

To-morrow a Grand Council is to be held at Fontainebleau on Affairs of great Importance.

Paris, Nov. 17.

Since the Return of Cardinal de Fleury to the Court the Intrigues there seem to be a little dissipated, or at least they do not appear so openly as before. There still, however, but three powerful Cabals, viz. that of the House of Conde, which acts for the Duke of Bourbon, whereof he is Head; that of the Family of Noailles, supported by the Countess de Thouloufe, who works hard to get M. Chauvelin to Court again; and a third, which interests itself for the Duke of Orleans, tho' this Prince does not take the least Pains to have a greater Share in the Management of Affairs after the Death of the Cardinal, than he has at present.

Event Details

A grand council on affairs of great importance is set for tomorrow at Fontainebleau. Since Cardinal de Fleury's return to court, intrigues have dissipated or become less open. Three powerful cabals remain: House of Conde acting for Duke of Bourbon; Family of Noailles, supported by Countess de Thouloufe pushing for M. Chauvelin's return; and one interested in Duke of Orleans, who shows no interest in greater management share after the Cardinal's death.
