National Aegis.

Soon after the election of Mr. Jefferson to the Presidency of the United States, the Farmer's alias attorney Gen. is supposed, under the immediate auspices of the President, set out to revolutionize the sentiments of the good people of Massachusetts, through the medium of a paper called the National Aegis, which was edited by one Francis Blake, but with his Iris and Mammoth powers, he has not been able either to shield himself from the open attacks of the federalists, or the insidious blows of the democrats, he, therefore, unable to fight their battles or make converts to his doctrines, has at last published his dying speech, which he concludes in the following words.

"For more than two years I have been in constantly assailed by the whole phalanx of federal scribblers; from the great Goliath of their party down to the feeblest stripling who could wield a pen. I have stood the shock of their united exertions—I have partially abandoned the duties of an honorable profession, to aid in defending the government, against an outrageous and vindictive enemy. I have not rushed into the battle like a Soldier of Fortune, for I expected neither honor nor emolument from the contest. As I encouraged no delusive hopes of profit from enterprise, in this, therefore I have not been disappointed. As I was prepared for my full portion of Federal obloquy, my anticipations on this subject have been completely answered. If I was foolish enough to flatter myself with anything like Republican gratitude for my exertions, I have learnt wisdom from experience, prudence from misfortune, and humility from disappointment."
