From the Toronto Colonist.
A very extraordinary circumstance occurred recently in Garafraxa. John Butler, of lot No. 11, on the 14th concession, in that township, whose wife had been confined in the Lunatic Asylum, Toronto, took her home some time in May 1854. She remained with her husband and family until August 6th, when she left her home and started into the woods, having scarcely any clothing on her person; and never was heard of till the 7th of last month, (September,) when a Mr. London, happening to be in the woods seeking his cattle, discovered her alive, but entirely naked with the exception of some rags on her shoulders; the rest of her clothes she had torn off and tied in knots in her hands. Her husband took her home, and tried to make the best of her for a little time: but it was said she threatened to destroy her family with an axe, when it became necessary to send her to jail for safe custody. We are told that she was reduced to a mere skeleton when found. She has six children; the eldest between thirteen and fourteen years old. It is supposed that she could not have existed so long without food but from the fact of her being enceinte at the time. The family are from Yorkshire, England, and have been in this country seven years.
