TON 1RA JONES
Doctor Jones, who speaks on the opening night of Chautauqua, has recently been the subject of a flood of newspaper publicity. It resulted from his appearance before the Executives' Club of Chicago, at which time he referred to "a new poison gas so deadly that it will destroy armies, as a man might snuff out a candle." He also took occasion to discuss a new metal, beryllium, weighing one-half as much as aluminum and exceeding the tensile strength of steel—a metal which may revolutionize the airplane industry. So great is the interest in the timely subjects discussed that the Chicago Tribune carried two pictures and a half-column news article on Doctor Jones and his lecture. Arthur Brisbane made editorial comment at length in the Hearst papers, and the New York Times and New York Herald Tribune both carried extensive news articles.
The New York Times sent a special news writer and photographer to interview Doctor Jones in his laboratory.
"Science and the Future," the lecture-demonstration which Doctor Jones is to give here, illustrates what is happening along commercialized scientific lines, shows how science is altering the fabric of our daily lives, how industry has found a fairy godmother in science, and takes the audience on a trip into the world of the future—fantastic in its gigantic and breath-taking possibilities.
