The Speakership.
Two gentlemen are named in connection with: the Speakership of the Lower House of the General Assembly of this State, at the coming organization of the Legislature. The one is Jacob Butler, of Muscatine, and the other W. I. Gilchrist, of McGregor. Mr. Butler is a gentleman well known throughout the State is an able lawyer, a fine stumper, and an earnest, unflinching Republican. He has served one or more terms in the Legislature, and has the advantage of parliamentary experience. Mr. Gilchrist we are not acquainted with, but the McGregor News endorses him cordially, and says that he "is somewhat mature in years, an excellent parliamentarian, a calm thinker, with a practical and ready discrimination between the merits and demerits of any issue in controversy." Either gentlemen would doubtless do credit to the position.
