TACOMA, Oct. 13.—Roland H. Pothier, accused of the murder of Major A. F. Kronkhite at Camp Lewis, Oct. 25, 1918, was acquitted today by a jury.
The case had attracted nation-wide notoriety as the parents of Kronkhite had insisted that he was murdered instead of being killed accidentally, during target practice, as was claimed by the authorities.
Pothier had been accused of confessing the murder to secret service operatives, but on the trial repudiated his confession.
It was charged that Capt. Robert Rosenthal had instigated Pothier to shoot Kronkhite, but the charges were not substantiated at the trial.
The indictment was dismissed today.
