For the Gazette of the United States.

Mr. FENNO,

THE vague remarks, "From a Correspondent," inserted in your paper of Friday last, would need no reply, the malevolence of the author being so very obvious : to repay, however, the scribbler in his own coin, it is only to observe, that as the address of " the German Republican Society," appeared some time since, his remarks are a refractory proof that said address was too bitter a pill for the yearning bowels of him and his aristocratic brethren to give an immediate solution.

It is probable when their stomachs have once more resumed their wonted state that they will find and acknowledge the remedy administered to be the most salutary for the future preservation of their emaciated constitutions.Your afore-mentioned correspondent has (perhaps thro inadvertency) been guilty of some fallacy, particularly with respect to Mr. Genet's being the founder of " the Republican Society;" do please to inform him that said society was already established before the arrival of Mr. Genet had been heard of in this part of the country; and that this and similar societies are rising not " falling". the formation and establishment of a Republican society at Lancaster, since the clamor a few monarchists have endeavored to invite, is alone a sufficient demonstration.

" To stab, like a base assassin, in the dark, ". was an imputation frequently cast upon these Societies ; have not their principals prefixed their names to the address? But who are the anonymous scribblers that have appeared so solicitous to stigmatize them with paltry aspersions ? Lo, they lurk in darksome cells fearful of the light !"

One word more to your correspondent. When a writer is in want of argument ridicule is but a sorry substitute, he must therefore not be disappointed nor regret if such remarks as his are read with the same contempt by the public as they are by the members of those societies to whom they are addressed.
