Full Text

Extract of a letter from Doctor H. Skinner,
dated Eddyville, (Ken.) 25th July, 1817.

The small pox has made its appearance
in this country. A Mr. M'Kean who had
the kine pock about ten years since in
Nashville, has lately caught the small pox
in Pittsburgh and reached this neighborhood.
I visited him a few days since, and learned
that the kine pock was attended with every
symptom which marks its genuine progress
-he may nevertheless, have been mistaken,
and the matter not genuine with which he
was vaccinated--I have so much confidence
in the vaccination. that I have introduced
it into every family in town within a few
days--I believe, however, there are cases
of the small pox after the genuine kine
pock--but I am also convinced that in such
cases the same persons have had, or are
susceptible of taking the small pox more
than once.
