July 5. The 4th Instant, N. S. The Beau-Monde in the Garden of the Thuilleries, and other publick Walks, was so us'd to all Intents and Purposes: Never did so sudden, so unexpected, and so heavy a Rain fall in that Part of the World; it more resembled a Sea-falling from the Sky than a Rain, and the Confusion it caus'd in the Thuilleries was so great, that several Persons were stifled to Death in the Crowd, and a great many dangerously hurt. The Streets of Paris had immediately Two Feet Water in them, which continued several Hours before the fresh Supplies from above would let it run clear off.
