WELLS STILL TAX COLLECTOR.

Delay in Receiving Bond Keeps Mr. Thomson Out of Office.

Mr. Thomas F. Thomson, the newly elected tax collector of Chatham county, said yesterday that he does not expect to qualify and assume the duties of his new office until the latter part of the week.

Mr. Thomson is required to give bond for $100,000, of which amount half is to the county and the other half to the state. He has arranged to give this bond with a surety company as security, but the bond itself has not yet arrived. As some legal preliminaries are necessary before the bond can be made acceptable to the county attorney and the commissioners, it is not thought by Mr. Thomson that these can be completed before Thursday.

The law requires that the tax collector qualify before the County Commissioners, and when his bond is ready a special meeting will be called and he will take the oath.
