HELENA - Superintendent of Public Instruction, Harriet Miller, this week notified County Treasurer George Masengill and County Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Laura Jane Taft that Glacier County will receive $8,571.79 as the final transportation reimbursement payment for elementary and secondary schools from the State Public School Equalization Fund. This payment is based on claims submitted to the Department of Public Instruction. The total amount the county's schools received from this source during the completed school year is $16,693.45.
The state payments aid in the support of the schools' transportation costs. The state reimburses one-third of the basic costs of transportation in accordance with a schedule set by statute.
The balance of the money to support the transportation budget comes from a county-wide tax levy and from school district taxes, Miss Miller said.
