Polio Case Rate Falls,
Foundation Reports

NEW YORK-(UPI)--There were 3,277 polio cases in the United States last year, the lowest case rate in history, the National Foundation reported Wednesday.

It quoted provisional figures of the U. S. Public Health Service as showing there were 1.3 polio cases per 100,000 Americans, compared to 4.9 cases in 1959 and 38.2 during the peak epidemic year of 1952.

The Foundation warned that despite a continuous decline of polio since the introduction of Salk vaccine six years ago, 85 million Americans remain unvaccinated, presenting "ample fuel for still more epidemics."
