Inquest Into Death Of Humphrey Woman May Be This Week

Solicitor J. Abner Barker and Sheriff B. Frank Morton held conference here Friday afternoon relative to an inquest into the death of Mrs. Marcellus Humphrey, Gregory Fork woman.

It is expected that an inquest, at which the solicitor will be present, will be held this week, the sheriff said, adding that there had been no new developments into the bizarre death.

Mrs. Humphrey was killed by a shotgun charge proceeding downward under her left shoulder blade last week. Mr. Humphrey and their daughter said they heard no gun shots, but did hear her fall to the floor and are offering the opinion that the gun in the hallway through which the woman passed was accidentally discharged when she brushed against it.

Coroner G. W. Jones has signed the death certificate as "homicide" without pointing an accusing finger at any person. He signed it also to read that the charge came from the husband's shotgun.

The coroner's jury several times has visited the scene of the death, and so has Solicitor Barker, but no evidence has yet been taken, although the jurors have talked freely with Mrs. Humphrey's daughter.
