Broadway.

We have heretofore noticed the many handsome improvements which have been made in the widening, grading, paving, &c., of this street, formerly Market street, Fell's Point, and in the erection of blocks of large and elegant dwellings. The beauty of the street has been somewhat marred, for the present, with a view, however, to still further improvement. The North Market House, having been found, upon examination, to be too much decayed to admit of useful repairs, has agreeably to an ordinance, passed at the last session of the Councils, been levelled with the ground, and its place is to be supplied by a more spacious and substantial one. For the convenience of the public, in the meanwhile, a temporary frame work has been erected on the lot known as one of the "Parks," immediately North of the head of the market square, the fences having been taken from around both of these enclosures, in accordance with a resolution of the City Councils, also passed at the last session. While speaking of the "Parks" we would suggest to the City Council, that, at its next annual session, both squares should be removed entirely, and that portion of the street graded and paved to correspond with the more northern part. If suffered to remain as they now are, even after the removal of the temporary market house alluded to, they will continue to present a most unsightly appearance, destroying entirely the beauty of the other parts of the street, as they have already become thoroughfares for omnibuses, carts, drays, &c. Not the least among the ornaments of this street, when finished, will be the new Presbyterian Church at the corner of Gough street and Broadway which is now in rapid progress of completion. More new buildings, in addition to those noticed by us some time since, are in progress of construction, and the work of widening and grading a portion of the street, North of East Baltimore street, is already under way. When the contemplated improvements are finished, we shall be able to congratulate our fellow citizens of the Eastern section of the city on having, in their midst, one of the most beautiful avenues in the city, commanding a fine view of the harbor, and highly salubrious, from its great width, and its contiguity to the hills around, which insure a current of pure air in all seasons.—American.
