LOS ANGELES, Feb. 15. (U.P.)—Marjorie Berger, Hollywood income tax advisor, was in county jail today serving a federal prison sentence of two and one half years' for her part in making a false income tax report for Dorothy Mackaill, screen actress.
The tax expert was smiling when she surrendered to federal authorities late yesterday, after a futile attempt for a stay of execution on grounds that she needed to care for business.
She joked about a bandaged hand, wounded when attacked by a savage dog, but broke down and wept softly when the jail doors clanged behind her.
Miss Berger will remain in the county jail while awaiting a prison designation. She will probably be sent to the San Francisco women's jail at Ingleside, it was indicated.
Six other indictments pending against the woman have not been set for trial. Among motion picture notables who testified at Miss Berger's initial trial were Dorothy Mackaill, Dorothy Sebastian, King Vidor, Eleanor Boardman Vidor, and others.
