career from 1926 to the present time. He said "Boston comes first. The job of City Councilor is a full-time occupation. I pledge, if elected, to give honest, diligent and courageous service." The sense of the meeting was that Mr. Ward's record as a public servant in the past quarter of a century warrants belief in his pledge and a vote for him next Tuesday will be to the betterment of city government. Incidentally, many remembered that Mr. Ward was instrumental in getting the first two colored nurses in the Boston City Hospital. Other speakers were Deputy Chief Boston Fire Department, Franklin Sanborn, Mrs. France Barge, Rev. O. D. Davis of Los Angeles, Cal., and Carmen Lango of Newark, N. J. At the close of the meeting the gracious hostess served a collation and the friends participated in the reception to candidate Ward.
