Tune—"The Young Yankee."
I'll sing you a comical ditty.
As e'er in your lives you did hear.
Concerning the pork and the axes,
Come all ye brave lads, lend an ear.
I'll tell of the grand speculation,
Of that famous Tory M'Nab,
In his Ohio pork and new axes,
As well as the game we call grab.
A cargo destined for the loyalists,
Three thousand bright dollars it cost,
We landed on Liberty Island,
The tories their supper they lost.
Poor fellows, we pity them greatly,
We sympathise with them indeed;
And while they are gnawing their thumb nails,
On short-cake and pork we will feed.
The next morning after the cargo
Of axes and pork came on shore,
M'Nab set his mortars to growling,
And caused his great cannon to roar.
His tories being madden'd with hunger,
All set themselves fiercely at work :
They threw balls and shells on our Island.
To fall the amount of their pork.
Balls, bomb-shells, and bullets and rockets.
Were tumbling among us all day,
Without filling their bellies or pockets-
At night they went empty away.
With heart-rending grief and vexation,
The cowardly old rogue M'Nab,
Retired with small consolation,
While we were enjoying our grab.
We have shortcake and pork in great plenty,
We have axes to chop down the trees,
Regardless of bomb-shells and rockets,
We eat, drink, and live at our ease.
But if we get short of provisions,
We are not obliged to work ;
We will row ourselves over the river,
And call on M'Nab for more pork.
I'll sing you a comical ditty.
As e'er in your lives you did hear.
