In North-Carolina, they have provided to raise the state tax for 1804, assessing 8 pence upon every 100 acres of land; 2 shillings upon every poll; and 2 shilling upon every 100 pounds value in town lots. All free males are to pay the poll tax from 21 to 50 years of age. All slaves from 12 to 50 years. All pedlars must be licenced. Merchants stores must pay 50 shillings. All who break bulk, or retail goods, if they pay no duties to the United States, must pay 50 shillings. No sinking fund tax to be paid this year.
