A Gigantic "copperhead" conspiracy has been unearthed in New York city. It appears that several of the wealthy resident democrats have agreed to pay liberally for the circulation of Gov. Seymour's message and other documents of like character among the Puritans. This nefarious design was disclosed to a reporter of the New York Evening Post, admitted unwittingly to a meeting of the "bloody-minded and conspiring" copperheads. The startling revelation of the reporter occupies a column and a half. If unprejudiced men can read it half of that (formerly) respectable paper without shuddering, then is "every petty artery in their bodies as hardy as the Nemean Lion's nerve." Here is a deliberate attempt revealed to convert the Puritans to democracy among them. We should not be surprised if that simple minded and charitable people were next debauched by circulating Gov. Seymour's message and Washington's farewell address. Certainly those who would circulate the circulation of Washington's farewell address would be criminal enough to circulate the address. In a land of school-houses, where the people can all read, there is no estimating the extent of injury by the introduction of such documents among them. They indicate their weariness of abolition literature, and on the eve of an election in New Hampshire there is a conspiracy formed in New York to provide them with other reading. When before in our history has it been known that the leaders of a political party have conspired --that up till ten o'clock at night in secret conclave, conspiring to provide means for the circulation of political documents.

The whole democratic party is conspiring against the Puritans. Western democrats want to "leave them out in the cold," and eastern democrats are debauching them with Seymour's message and Washington's farewell address.
