NEW GAS TRUSTEES

The ordinance passed by Council, at its session last Friday night, for the regulation of the gas works, provides for the appointment of three trustees to manage the affairs of those works. It requires these trustees to give bond in the penal sum of $30,000 and making them responsible to the city for all the acts of all the employees. For all the labor and responsibility imposed by the ordinance, the trustees are to be rewarded with a salary of $500. The tempting offer respectfully declined by Mr. A. Wu and Mr. Kelly on Saturday; and we understand that both, Messrs. Siler Fox and Wirt find the labor and responsibility out of proportion to the salary, and therefore they do not presume to accept unless the Council shall see fit to relieve them of responsibility for the acts of others than themselves.

We presume the matter will be discussed in its various bearings in Council to-night.
