A gentleman just arrived from Porto Rico, at New York, gives the following advices: On the 15th of July last, by an order of the governing power, all French property was declared to be sequestered, comprehending all the plantations and private property of every Frenchman in that Island, leaving to each person 100 dollars and their cloths. The governor was obliged to enforce this order by several of the counsellors, who pretended that his excellency had not accomplished the order from the Spanish Junta. The French were ordered to quit the colony in one month, without exception, not even those who are married to Spanish women; many who have been resident 17 to 20 years. The execution of this order was, however, so repugnant to the feelings of many of the most respectable colonists, that they assembled and presented an address full of energy and sentiments of humanity, in favor of those unfortunate people; and represented how much the colony must suffer by sending into exile persons by whose industry the colony had risen in the proportion of 100 to 1000: besides that by their exertions and valor the colony had been on one occasion rescued from capture. The governor having weighed this representation, in a few days after issued an order qualifying the operation of the previous decree, and permitting to remain those who had emigrated from St. Domingo, persons employed in agriculture, mechanics, those who have received special permission from his Catholic majesty, and those who are married to Spanish women. This order has excited great gladness among the Creoles; but it has mortified extremely a few persons who wished to amass immense fortunes upon the spoils of the unfortunate, amounting to more than 700 families.---Aurora.
