Full Text

An Incident.

Monday evening, at the close of the Funeral March of the Tillotson Guards, a halt was made on the square in front of the Court House. Captain Crowell arranged his men in a hollow square, and then brought his wife forward and introduced her to them all. It was a pleasing and interesting scene, which will not soon be forgotten by the Captain's wife or his gallant comrades. It was witnessed by but few of our citizens, and, being without ostentation or display, was as free as if it had occurred in a private parlor. That friendly, heartfelt congratulation will be a talismanic chord to vibrate through every soldier's breast, and whether on the tented field or weary march, in bloody conflict or the last moments of life's fitful flow, the thought that woman's prayer ascends for them, will be joy in their pleasures, will lighten every toil, and linger lovingly about their heart's last pulsation.
