Arrest of A Supposed Burglar.—A Chinaman was arrested on Tuesday evening last, at Chinese Camp in whose possession was found a quantity of tobacco, which was identified as a portion of that taken from Mrs. Donovan's store, in Jamestown last week.

Upon making the arrest, Constable Smith started with the Chinaman in a buggy, to take him before Justice Preston, in Jamestown for examination. Shortly after passing the Montezuma House, the Chinaman having unperceived, slipped the handcuff from one of his wrists, struck the constable on the head with it. A struggle ensued, the horse increased his speed, the reins dropped from the constable's hands, the fight was progressing fiercely, when the buggy upset, throwing the combatants to the ground. The horse ran away, and the buggy was seriously damaged.

After being thrown out on the road, the fight still continuing, soon as he could get his revolver to bear upon the Chinaman, the constable attempted to shoot, but the pistol would only snap. The snapping had a decided effect on the Chinaman, he at once gave up, and quietly walked ahead of Smith, whose battery was leveled at him, until they reached the next house, where he was properly secured.

Upon reaching Jamestown, so many threats of hanging were uttered, the constable rushed him into the stage which then came along, brought him to Sonora and landed him in jail.

Both parties were somewhat worse for wear, Smith's head and face show unmistakable signs of a heavy fight, he has the satisfaction of having performed his duty well.
