Full Text
Afflictive.—One Parker Pillsbury- "Phœbus what a name!"—is of opinion that Samuel Lewis is the least deserving of the three candidates for Governor in Ohio! "A Daniel come to judgment! yea a Daniel!" I Cape Cod Daniel! "Hung be the Heavens with black!"
We copy the above would-be-witty paragraph from the "Democratic Standard and Whig of '76." As it bears no initial signature, we suppose it contains the concentrated dignity of all the conductors of that paper. "One Parker Pillsbury!"—how noble the expression! how worthy of that august body the Ohio State Liberty Committee! The Committee will probably find ere long, that not only one Daniel, but every Buckeye voter, except a handful of Liberty party men, have come to judgment, and pronounced Samuel Lewis the least deserving of the three candidates.
The sneer at Cape Cod we suppose is extremely pointed and cutting, though with our dull perceptions we are unable to discover its great merits. Poor Cape Cod! how grieved it will be to learn that the Liberty Central Committee of Ohio has used its name to point the sarcasm aimed at "one Parker Pillsbury."
