WINGS OVER THE

The year was 1927 and a great new industry the daring Trans-Atlantic flight of Charles A. Lindbergh.

Aviation was gradually finding its way into the consciousness of the American public.

Here in Hagerstown, people were taking notice of a struggling young business on the edge of the city. In a little green shed, with only 5,000 feet of floor space, Ammon Kreider and Lew Reisner were pioneering an enterprise that would, in years to come, make Hagerstown a major aircraft manufacturing center.

TODAY airplanes are still being built in Hagerstown. But the intervening 20 years have brought changes. The little green shed is gone, supplanted by FAIRCHILD'S busy plants at the Municipal Airport. The struggling young business has mushroomed into a strong, healthy member of the city's industrial family, and the people who keep it running are your neighbors. You see them everywhere, because 73% of these Faircrafters are residents of Hagerstown and Washington County.

They represent a living, working part of the community.

PEOPLE—their interests, the labors, their pleasures—make up the Fairchild Aircraft Division.

On the job, they comprise a closely knit organization of craftsmen, but when the work day ends, you see them at their homes becoming absorbed in sports, recreation, and community activities.

Parades, baseball games, civic projects, club dances, Red Cross campaigns, the Community Chest picnics in the park—all of the typically American pursuits occupy the leisure time and attention of Faircrafters and their families.

Part and parcel of the Hagerstown scene, they give of themselves to an ever brighter peaceful life.
