The opening of the roads is now beginning.
Route 97, the Nome Kougarok Road, is being cleared of snow, culverts are being opened and ditches cleared.
Frank Morris, district engineer for the A.R.C. today gave this report on roads in the vicinity:
Fairly heavy snowdrifts of six to eight feet are making the going rather slow; however, there is much less snow a few miles further on The road is passable to within a short distance of Dexter.
The Nome-Council Road is open to just past Mile 5. It is expected this route will open fairly fast except for the annual washout repairs at the Hastings crossing. as the favorable weather during the past few days has melted most of the snow
The Sunset Road has been opened to Anvil Creek, a popular picnic spot, where a large culvert is being installed to replace an old wooden bridge.
