The Boers Threatening the Durban Connection.
Special to the Sunday Light.
New York, Nov. 4.-The situation at the close of the week in Natal may be thus summed up:
While Gen. Joubert's artillery maintains a constant bombardment of Ladysmith, burgher forces are striving to cut Gen. White off from Durban and thus prevent reinforcements from reaching him.
With this purpose, Boer detachments are maneuvering to capture points below Ladysmith, Colenso being the chief objective. Already claims are made in burgher quarters that Colenso has been taken by the Free Staters under Gen. Lucas-Meyer and these are conceded.
Official reports of the casualties at Farquhar's farm on last Monday, when the Fusileers and Gloucesters were forced to surrender, show startlingly heavy losses. Gen. White announces that the killed and wounded in that disaster number 300.
The British losses thus far in the war are now calculated to exceed those of the Boers.
A burgher force is reported to be marching through Zululand, with apparent purpose of getting in position to menace Pietermaritzburg.
