FROM NASSAU.
By the schooner Mexicana, at this port from Nassau, we have papers of that city to the 6th June inclusive. From the papers of the latest date we select the following paragraphs:—
A brigantine of very suspicious appearance, under Italian colors, was wrecked at the Elbow, Man-of-war Key, Abaco, on the night of Sunday, the 22d ult. She mounted 20 guns, or upwards, and had on board, when wrecked, 12 hands, including the master, who was the only person among them who could speak English. He expressed great apprehension on the wreckers asking him if he wished to proceed to Nassau. The master and crew were taken to Green Turtle Key, where the crew and materials now are. The master having gone to the U States, in an American vessel, said to be the Cassa Ann, commanded by a Captain Young. It is reported that the brigantine had on board, at the time she sunk, 20,000 dollars: and that the master left word on leaving Green Turtle Key, that he should return in a vessel to be chartered for the purpose, and take the crew out to the U. S. having first given directions to the authorities there to sell the materials.
His Excellency, who left last evening for Harbor Island, in the Skipjack, will proceed thence to Green Turtle Key, and will have an opportunity of investigating this mysterious business, and, if deemed necessary, will probably accommodate the crew with a passage to Nassau; where we doubt not they will meet with that attention, which the circumstances of their case requires.
