Full Text

The Jackson CLARION in commenting on the election in its State, says:

This has the ring of the true metal about it, and the gentlemen who have been chosen to represent the people of Mississippi will not fulfill the promises made for them unless they act in accordance with advice so wisely given by THE CLARION. It is a very small matter to a people as to who they are plundered by—aliens or native-born citizens.

What is needed is reform—not the wordy and unmeaning utterances of politicians at ward meeting or in the Legislature, but positive, practical reform, such as Tilden has inaugurated in New York, and Chamberlain in South Carolina.

"Deeds not words" must be the motto of Mississippi and Louisiana.
