Enforcement of old laws dealing with employes' insurance workers' indemnity and the paid seven-day vacation were promised by President Lazaro Cardenas of Mexico at Monterrey Monday, Dr. Bernardo Chavez V, consul of Mexico in McAllen, revealed here Tuesday after returning from a conference with the president in Monterrey.
Chavez said the laws had been on the statute books for some time but had not been enforced.
Regulations Oked
The government has no communistic tendencies, President Cardenas told Dr. Chavez, and is interested only in bettering conditions of workers in Mexico.
Regulations for workers were accepted by Monterrey employers, representing the old Capitalist regime, after they talked with the president, Dr. Chavez disclosed.
Emilio Portes Gil, president of the National Revolutionary party, in Saltillo for an agrarian convention, asserted that the "turmoil in Monterrey was due to industrial capitalists who have lived in Monterrey, absorbing the activities of Saltillo, Nuevo Laredo, and Tampico."
Mexican Press Blamed
With the unification of workers, he declared, they will lose that control.
Much of the trouble has been due to inflamed imaginations of press reporters within the country, he averred.
"Soon nations will see that Mexico works for the benefit of the country with the best living standards of any people," Cardenas told Dr. Chavez.
